Planter BoXes

Custom architectural planter boxes in mild steel, corten, stainless and aluminium — fabricated and installed to specification for Melbourne’s commercial developments.

Architectural Planters. Made to Last.

Planter boxes are a functional and architectural element found across commercial lobbies, rooftop terraces, streetscapes, and mixed-use developments. At Straight Up Metal Services, we fabricate custom planter boxes across the full range of materials — from powder-coated mild steel through to naturally weathering corten, brushed stainless, and lightweight aluminium.

Every planter is fabricated to exact dimensions from project drawings, with proper drainage, liner provisions, and fixing details built in from the start. Whether it’s a single freestanding unit or a coordinated run of built-in planters across an entire development, we manufacture and install to the same exacting standard.

All materials (Mild steel, corten, stainless, aluminium)

Commercial, multi-residential & civic applications

Freestanding

Self-supporting planter units for lobbies, terraces, streetscapes, and open public areas. Can be ballasted, anchored, or weighted to suit the application.

Built-In

Integrated planter boxes built into landscape or architectural elements — retaining walls, balustrade bases, podiums, and structural surrounds.

Wall-Mounted

Bracket-fixed or structurally anchored planter boxes mounted to walls, columns, and façade elements — ideal for vertical greening and space-constrained sites.

Raised Garden Beds

Large-format raised bed systems for rooftop gardens, civic landscapes, and community spaces. Designed with soil load, drainage, and waterproofing in mind.

The Right Material for Every Setting.

We manufacture our planter boxes in a variety of different metals for different applications. If you have a planter box required for your project, reach out to the Straight Up Metal Services team today.

Mild Steel Planter Boxes

Mild steel is the most widely used material for commercial planter boxes — and for good reason. It’s strong, highly workable, and can be fabricated into virtually any shape or size. Powder-coated in any colour, it offers both visual flexibility and lasting durability in sheltered and semi-exposed environments.

Mild steel planters are ideal for commercial lobbies, covered terraces, internal courtyards, and multi-residential communal spaces where a clean, refined finish is required at a competitive price point.

Corten / Weathering Steel Planter Boxes

Corten — or weathering steel — develops a rich, layered rust patina over time that acts as its own protective barrier. No paint, no coating, no ongoing maintenance. The result is a material that looks better with age and becomes a genuine design feature in its own right.

Corten planter boxes are a standout choice for landscape architects and designers working on feature streetscapes, civic spaces, rooftop gardens, and outdoor commercial areas where a bold, natural material aesthetic is the brief.

Stainless Steel Planter Boxes

Stainless steel planter boxes deliver a premium, architectural finish suited to the most demanding commercial interiors and coastal or marine-exposed environments. Naturally corrosion-resistant with no requirement for protective coatings, stainless maintains its appearance with minimal upkeep.

Available in brushed, polished, or satin finishes, stainless planters are frequently specified for high-end commercial lobbies, hotel entrances, healthcare facilities, and high-exposure coastal or waterfront developments.

Aluminium Planter Boxes

Aluminium is the go-to material where weight is a critical consideration — rooftop gardens with slab load restrictions, elevated terraces, and podium-level landscapes where the cumulative weight of large planters needs to be carefully managed.

Naturally corrosion-resistant and available in a wide range of powder coat and anodised finishes, aluminium planters offer the same visual flexibility as mild steel at a significantly reduced weight — without sacrificing structural integrity or finish quality.

Large-Format & Long-Run Planter Systems

Any shape.
Any size.

We don’t work from a catalogue. Every planter we fabricate is built to the dimensions and profile specified in the project drawings. Standard rectangular forms, tapered profiles, curved edges, L-shapes, or fully bespoke architectural configurations — if it can be drawn, we can build it in our warehouse.

Rectangular & Square

The most common planter form — clean, versatile, and suited to linear arrangements, grid patterns, and any setting requiring a structured, ordered look.

Powder Coat

Available in the full Dulux and Interpon colour range. Durable, UV-stable, and the most popular finish for mild steel and aluminium planters. Matt, satin, and gloss sheens available.

Mild Steel

Aluminium

Natural Patina

Corten's self-forming rust patina is its own finish — no paint or coating required. The patina stabilises over 12–24 months into a rich, layered oxide that acts as a protective barrier.

Mild Steel

Brushed & Polished

Directional brushed or mirror-polished finishes for stainless steel planters. Brushed (No. 4) is the most common for commercial applications; polished suits premium interior settings.

Stainless Steel Only

Hot-Dip Galvanised

For mild steel planters in highly exposed outdoor environments, hot-dip galvanising provides a zinc barrier coating with long-term corrosion protection — often used as a base under powder coat.
